Election Day Self-Care

Election Day is dawning and the stress and anxiety are real for many.
Here are a few ways to pray and play your way through the day.

Election Day Self-Care:
1. Let election day unfold slowly in bits and pieces.  Only take in that which makes you feel stronger.  Try and avoid the constancy of the play-by-play new cycle.   It's also OK to not tune in at all.
Or perhaps, by tuning in, you feel more informed and more in control.
There is no right way or 'have to' way to experience election day.
2.  Set social media boundaries. Turn off the television and lay down the phone even just for mini-breaks.  Turn off notifications for the day.
3.  Intentionally decide where and when you want to receive news and from what source.  Schedule your day ahead of time.  Plan for breaks, connections, activities and distractions.
4.  Set boundaries with people including family if politics trigger conflict, anxiety or stress.
5.  Practice basic self-care.  Sleep.  Hydrate.  Eat well.  Exercise.  Take a walk.  Breathe deeply.
Meditate and Pray.  Connect with friends responsibly.  Ask for help if feeling overwhelmed.

Attached is a guide to 4 Intentional Election Day Prayer Practices for you and your family.  These practices are good for kids, teens, and adults.  They only take a minute to do and each include a 30 second prayer.  Children and Youth can feel the tension and are experiencing the stress too.  We all need avenues of acknowledgement of stress and self-care as well.  Take a break and do a quick reset together.

May we wake Wednesday with a renewed call and commitment to peace, respect, and love in action... whatever the days following may bring.
